Twenty-eight years of love and service.
Twenty-eight years of doing what others won’t.
And now, the city wants to shut it down.
A Church That Loves Its Neighbors
Originally located on Ervay Street, just across from Dallas City Hall, DISC has never shied away from its mission: to serve “the least of these.” We've had no issues with city officials over the decades. In fact, police officers and firefighters have brought people to our doors—knowing this church is a safe, dependable place to recover, rest, and heal.
But that all changed with the rollout of the South Dallas/Fair Park Area Plan.
This new city plan paints a picture of transformation: walkable streets, trendy retail shops, new housing developments, and entertainment hubs. While development in itself isn’t the enemy, the way the city is going about it raises serious moral questions. Because to pave the way for this new version of Dallas, they’re trying to erase places like DISC—places that don’t “fit the mold.”
Evicted in the Name of Progress?
On Friday, June 6, 2025, at 2 am, a coordinated effort from the Dallas Police and Fire Departments forced everyone out of the DISC building and into the night. No warning. No compassion. Just displacement.
The same departments that bring people to our doorstep for help are now participating in our removal. The irony is staggering. The injustice is clear.
This isn’t about safety. This isn’t about zoning. This is about gentrification. This is about pushing out the poor and the people who serve them to make room for profits and polished storefronts.
We Will Not Be Moved
At DISC, we take the Bible seriously when it says:
“‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” — Mark12:31
That means loving the addicted.
That means loving the mentally ill.
That means loving the forgotten, the broken, the ones society steps over on the way to brunch.
We are not here for optics. We are here for people.
And we will not abandon them just because the city wants our land.
